Student Wellbeing Fayre – Thursday 29th September

With Fresher’s Week over and a new term beginning to get underway, we thought it would be worthwhile to give a short overview of the services we offer here at Student Enterprise and the benefits we can provide for entrepreneurially minded students. Whether you are looking to explore a world of freelancing, setting up your own business or just generally looking for advice about moving forward… we are the first place you should look for this term.

Starting a business saw a huge uptake in popularity during the pandemic as people began to use their newly found spare time to monetise their favourite hobbies, and this trend has continued. For students at the University of Lincoln, we are here to help you begin, or continue, your journey of starting a business. Whether you are looking for 1-2-1 sessions with experts, specialised advice and support or access to workspaces we can provide your idea with an ideal breeding ground for growth.

Freelancing also increased in popularity in the wake of the global pandemic, with people embracing the DIY attitude, NPR reported that the percentage of workers who claimed to have freelanced full time rose to 36%, which was up 8% compared to 2019 and over double what it was in 2014 (17%). Similar to starting your own business, freelancing provides you with the freedom to utilise your skillset to benefit businesses of your choosing, whilst also giving you the freedom to work where and when you want. In terms of getting you started, at Student Enterprise we offer specialist advice and mentoring for students and aim to provide you with all the basic business skills you need to help you hit the ground running in freelancing.

If you are looking for more generalised support we offer; advice on attaining funding, regular workshops, mentoring from experienced professional, networking opportunities with local businesses in the Enterprise Network, 1-2-1 support, workspaces and trips and events. All of these are opportunities for you as a new entrepreneur to experience what life is truly like running a business, and they are often invaluable experiences for students.

If you are looking for a more text-based learning approach, our in-depth Resource Hub is your one-stop shop for all the information you need to start a business. Our free to download documents include useful business terms, a business model canvas, business plan templates, company structure information, cash flow templates and a full list of fact sheet subject areas. We are always looking to expand and develop this area of Student Enterprise, and we are happy to take on feedback from students about what they would like to see offered here.

We hope this this provides a snapshot of what we can offer students at The University of Lincoln at Student Enterprise. We are passionate about enabling our students to take an idea and make it a business and will use all the resources at our disposal to ensure we give your business the best chance possible.

We will be releasing more focussed blogs in the future diving into specifics of each of our areas, but if you can’t wait in the meantime please explore the rest of our student-enterprise.co.uk website or get in touch with us at studententerprise@lincoln.ac.uk with any queries. You can also follow us on Instagram at @student.enterprise to stay up to date with us!
